Political structure Belarus is a Presidential Republic. Under the Constitution in force since 27 November 1996, the President is the executive Head of the State and the guarantor of the Constitution. His Excellency President Alexander LUKASHENKO has been re-elected for a third term in March 2006. The Prime Minister is nominated by the President and the Parliament approves or rejects the nomination. The bicameral National Assembly [Parliament] consists of 110 Members’ House of Representatives [Lower House] and 64 Members’ Council of the Republic [Upper House]
